You know, the fact I recently realised no one could post comments here has been annoying me. Its about time I simply re-installed S9Y and be done with it! On to my todo list it goes!

Starting today I will be opening Quantum Star SE 0.14 development. I know almost have a complete handle on the final structure and features of the final product. Don’t get all excited yet though, I still have a month of development before this is near finished, and I can start talking betas. It does however open the path for limited Alpha versions to be publicly released on Sourceforge.

I suppose that means I’ll have to update the website at long last (sigh); the things I do for this hobby…;-) I’ve fallen behind a bit on my emails, so anyone who’s emailed me recently – expect replies over the weekend. Apologies for the delay.

Back on 0.14. As part of the continuing quest to bring QS up to a standard of extremely high efficiency the database needs to be re-examined. The schema for those April pre-Alphas was thrown together with scarcely a thought for field types and lengths. I have a feeling it needs more work to narrow down the data we expect to be storing, and cutting the final size by a few inches. I’ll also (actually doing this today!) be getting our PostgreSQL schema set. I like Postgres, so its getting supported. It will be my choice at least for any production server I publish.

Last night I also ported Q-System across to an ApplicationHelper class (cut’n'paste tactics). It belongs in the application layer separate from the backend libraries, so that’s sorted. I also did some quick editing to squash the remaining two bugs reported in relation to QS 0.13 – so expect an updated version for testing at the weekend. Hopefully I can manage to get around to logins and signups tonight also. It needs a little work – primarily the web design aspect (I have a new CSS scheme cooking).

My new timetable for QS (remember this WILL change as real life intervenes):

0.14 : Released Nov 26
0.15 : Released Dec 10
0.16 : Alpha Released Dec 17
0.17 : Alpha Released Dec 24
0.18 : Alpha Released Jan 2

Very arbitrary – but I’ll do my best to make the dates. Beta’s should start seeing releases in early January. There will have to be a little reworking of the original 0.6 pa game classes to fit Partholan, but otherwise adding gameplay should trundle along quite rapidly.

Betas will commence with v0.2.0, to 0.9.0 (reflecting the addition of major gameplay elements) until we reach the new standard 1.0.0 Final which should closely resemble QS2 in gameplay (but without the bugs, and being a lot more efficient!).
