However, writting a book for the novice is a hard and long process.

You can’t just say $foo is a variable. You have to describe what the hell a variable is and why they want to use it.

Maugrim this comment is a bit out of place, but I’ve seen you name before on a forum when searching for enlightment on SimpleTest.

Do you know of any good guides to SimpleTest? Especially SimpleTest in Eclipse, and using SimpleTest’s mock_objects?

I think use of a wiki sounds very well-suited to such a project. You might look at MediaWiki, as it’s PHP/MySQL-based and what Wikipedia uses. I’d like to see and contribute to a project that might help eliminate a lot of beginner questions in ##php.

At the moment we have a temporary DocuWiki setup over at http://phpbook.quantum-star.com. Once we get a more permanent home, we’ll likely move to MediaWiki (it’s the best out there in PHP).

A Wiki will likely be used to screen proposed texts, but final texts will be transferred to a more adaptable format like DocBook or FOP.

Just to Tobias – learning SimpleTest was largely done without tutorials. Unit Tsting just doesn’t get huge attention. The folk at Devnetwork forum have a dedicated Testing forum and we’re all more than happy to help those learning and field questions.
